I Had A Theme
Emily Dickinson wrote “hope is the thing with feathers.” Years later Woody Allen refuted the poet’s optimism. “How wrong Emily Dickinson was! Hope is not ‘the thing with feathers.’ The thing with feathers has turned out to be my nephew. I must take him to a specialist in Zurich.” Our hope is that you don’t mind hearing that Drash Pit is slathering on the sun screen, picking up a thick book and taking in some summer R&R. See you in September when our theme will be ‘hope,’ with or without the feathers. Deadline is Monday, Sept.23.

Well, I guess I’ll get it out of the way up front. Drash Pit, which means me, is taking a couple of months off for refueling and relaxing. Fear not. September will find us back in your inbox replete with artistic, musical, cinematographic, literary and culinary wonders.
Why not begin your own vacation with a soul stirring Drash Meets Mosh and a visit to our Text section where you’ll be dazzled by what our contributors did with last month’s ‘crummy’ prompt.
Stop by Eye Openers too. Here, Rebecca Cohen bids farewell to Jimmy Jalapeeno, “a soft-spoken quirky guy” who, she writes, “often appeared to be swimming against the tide of contemporary art with his evocative landscape paintings, ample nudes and portraits of his cat.”
Cohen’s is a loving tribute. Don’t miss it or
Jalapeeno’s iconic painting of an iconic Austin landmark on Drash Pit’s Spring/Summer cover.
On this month’s Little Reviewish page, we treat you to a generous look at famed director, Steven Soderbergh’s tweeted novella. And in Nosh Pit, we give you a hearty taste of poet Elizabeth Bishop plus a few recipe crumbs.
Vox & Vids heralds the mobile app Vine and it’s addictive 6 second video morsels. Hope you like them. See you back here in the fall.
Have a great summer.
